Lisa Shaw



Biography

A Master Teaching Artist and versatile soprano, Lisa Shaw has the great fortune of spending her professional life in the field of music, both as a performer and a teacher of Voice, Musical Theatre, Acting, Cabaret, and Choral Music to all ages. As a professional singer of opera, oratorio, musical theatre, and jazz for more than 25 years, she has performed all over the world. Highlights include performances of the Soprano Solos in Mozart's C minor Mass at Lincoln Center in New York City, a European tour of The Phantom of the Opera in the leading role of Christine, writing and performing her cabaret/one-woman show It Ain't Over 'til the Singing Lady's Fat in New York City, as well as performing as a cabaret artist at the Kennedy Center. She has performed many roles including Despina (Cosí fan Tutte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Gilda (Rigoletto), Susannah (Susannah), and Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor). Ms. Shaw has enjoyed more than 15 years of focusing on her students, ages 5 to 100. She teaches voice lessons from her home studio, has written and directed musical theatre productions, led cabaret workshops, and is a choral conductor at a variety of schools throughout the region, including the Levine School of Music, Sidwell Friends School, and Holy Trinity School. She also conducts workshops locally and nationally on a variety of subjects, including Stage Fright, Audition Preparation, Breathing for Singing, and more. Ms. Shaw graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Music, followed by a Master of Music in Voice and an Artist Diploma in Opera Performance from University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.
