Gareth Johnson, age eighteen, began his studying violin at ten nd has achieved much success. A resident of Wellington, Florida, he has received numerous awards for his talents and ability, including the St. Louis Gateway Young Achievers Performing Arts Citation Award, and the Classic 99 Young Heroes in Music Award. Mr. Johnson was the 2001 winner of the Saint Louis Laclede String Quartet Solo Competiton, the 2001 winner of the 5th Annual Sphinx Competition, the 2002 winner of the New World Symphony High School Concerto Competition and the 2002 winner of the Lynn University Concerto Competition.

The St. Louis native now studies with Sergiu Schwartz at the Lynn University Conservatory of music in Boca Raton Florida.

Mr. Johnson has performed with the Sphinx Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Boston Pops, Gateway Festival Orchestra, North Carolina Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Baltimore, Detroit, Battle Creek, Cincinnati, Saint Louis, and Rochester Philharmonic orchestras. In March 2000, he took a three-week tour to the People's Republic of China with the Starling Chamber Orchestra of Cincinnati, Ohio. The year 2003 has taken him from recitals in Europe to playing his first performance for Oprah. He continues to grace varied audiences with his musical gifts and has a special interest in reaching out to those often unexposed to the classical arts. Upcoming venues include debuts with the Annapolis and Seattle Symphony Orchestras in 2004.

Mr. Johnson has attended and performed at various summer festivals, including Aspen, Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, International School of Music in Toronto, and ENCORE. In 1999, after studying in Aspen, Gareth was awarded a scholarship and invited to study at the Starling Preparatory String Project in Cincinnati, Ohio. His former teachers included Roland and Almita Vamos (Chicago), Kurt Sassmanshaus (Cincinnati), and David Halen, Yuly Ilyashov and Gayla Rothermich (St. Louis).

He plays on a 1996 Azzi violin, which has been loaned to him from violin maker Jules Azzi of Azzi and Wolf located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
