Abel Pereira



Biography

Abel Pereira, one of the most respected Portuguese artists of all time, internationally renowned, was born in Porto in the late 70´s.

He began his musical studies when he was 10 years old at the STCP Wind Band School of Music, and since his first solo performance at the age of 11 he has developed an intense concert and master-classe activity in many International Festivals through Europe, América, Ásia, África and Middle East, including various International Horn Society Symposiums.

He graduated at ESMAE (Porto University) with Bohdan Sebestik and pursuing his studies with Marie-Luise Neunecker at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.

During his training he studied with Hermann Baumann, Stefan Dohr, Jeffrey Bryant and Radovan Vlatkovich. Was awarded in several competitions, including Leeuwarden (Netherlands), Markneukirchen (Germany), Concertino Praha (Czech Republic) and PJM-RDP (Portugal) and in 1998 he received from the hands of Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink the European Master-Prize.

From the amount of records he performed, stand out the complete Mozart Horn Concerti, the URTEXT Mozart 4th concerto, Romantic Repertoire for Horn and Piano, the R. Strauss 1st Horn Concerto and the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante.

He was principal horn with Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música from 2000 for 14 years and teacher at ANSO(Lisbon University) and ESMAE(Porto University).

During his career he performed more than 50 solo concerts with many world class orchestras.

Obtained in 2012 the PhD at the Porto University. He is acting for many years as guest principal horn with the MusicAeterna, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, London Philharmonic and Berliner Philharmoniker.

Abel plays an Alexander 103 and he is starting his trial with the National Symphony Orchestra in September 2014 under Christoph Echenbach´s batton.
