David Winkler



Biography

David Winkler is a composer of contemporary opera and concert music. Since 1998, he has served as the Executive Director of Chamber Players International, a New York based chamber music society of some 25 renowned instrumentalists who perform concerts throughout the New York and Long Island Metropolitan area.

Mr. Winkler held residencies with the Long Island Philharmonic, as well as the Little Orchestra Society.

The New York Foundation for the Arts awarded Mr. Winkler a fellowship in composition for the 2002-03 season. He was the recipient of special ASCAP awards for seven consecutive years, and in his earlier years, received the BMI Young Composer Award.

During his career, David Winkler has received commissions from the Houston Grand Opera, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Aspen Music Festival, in addition to a Leonard Bernstein Composer Fellowship and a Fromm Foundation Commission.

He is currently preparing concerti for Yossi Arnheim, principal flutist of Israel Philharmonic, to be featured in the November 2005 International Flute Competition in Haifa, Israel, and for the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin for premier in the Spring of 2006 in Moscow, Russian Federation.
