Mama Tried


Mama Tried showcases the stellar talents of Dede Wyland and Randy Barrett, two of Washington, D.C.’s best bluegrass singers. Ms. Wyland is well known for her crystalline delivery and her pioneering work with the groups Tony Trischka and Skyline and Food Grass and Lodging. Mr. Barrett is a multiple WAMMIE winner and award winning songwriter. Mr. Barrett and Ms. Wyland's musical partnership goes back a decade. They recognized early on that their voices had a naturally rare blend and they are well known for their powerful duet singing. Ms. Wyland appears on two of Mr. Barrett’s albums, Each & Every Day and Lights of Home. Ms. Wyland also features him on her upcoming album due in 2009.

Mama Tried appears regularly in the Washington, D.C. area and delivers a memorable mix of progressive bluegrass. The group also features the musical talents of Ira Gitlin on bass, Dave Giegerich on dobro and Tom McLaughlin on guitar and mandolin.
