Ashley Daneman

“Editors’ Pick” for January 2015 in DownBeat Magazine and backed by a successful Kickstarter campaign, fans are calling Ashley Daneman’s Beauty Indestructible album an “inspired masterpiece,” “a rich banquet for the soul,”; saying it owns “intriguing melodies, haunting lyrics, and hip instrumentation,”; and that “it hits a nerve.”
Ashley is a singer-songwriter who creates soulful audio landscapes at the intersection of jazz and modern folk music. Her inventive, dreamy songs drip with rich harmonies aptly described as “…an uncompromising concoction of subtle and intimate jazz with a touch of hipster singer-songwriter.” (West Michigan Jazz Society)
Noted as “a fine young jazz vocalist” (USA Today), Ashley has been a resident artist at Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead and at The Banff Centre’s Jazz and Creative Workshop. She honed her chops on the Washington, D.C. jazz scene before completing her Master’s degree in Jazz Vocal Performance at Manhattan School of Music. All About Jazz says, “Ashley owns a decidedly individualistic style and a willingness to take interpretive risks, the true hallmark of the dedicated jazz musician.”
Ashley and her husband, trumpeter Benje Daneman, are based out of New York City.
