The Kennedy Center

The Capitol Jazz Project

A partnership between Washington Performing Arts Society and District of Columbia Public Schools in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Capitol Jazz Project provides support for music education in select schools through a series of coaching sessions in music performance through classroom study, master classes, and concerts by and with local teaching artists in the field. The Capitol Jazz Project also provides professional development for participating teachers and teaching artists and culminates at the end of the school year with an instrumental jazz summer camp that is tuition free for the participants. This performance provides a closer look at how these students have developed in their music study over the academic year, and showcases their musicianship and performance style as an ensemble in concert.
