Xuejuan Dance Ensemble

Biography

Xuejuan Dance Ensemble (XDE) is founded by Xuejuan Feng and is dedicated to providing Chinese dance education and performances. XDE’s mission is to introduce American audience to the arts of Chinese dance and Chinese culture.

Since its inception in 2009, the ensemble has welcomed and nurtured dancers of different ages, backgrounds and abilities in the Greater Washington DC Metro Area. The ensemble offers rigorous and comprehensive training in Chinese folk/ethnic dance and Chinese classical dance. Dancers are taught to a variety of ethnic dances such as Tibetan, Mongolian, Uyghur, Dai, Wa, Yi, Korean and Miao. They are also taught to a variety of Han folk dances using traditional props such as fans, ribbons, and handkerchiefs. Dancers also receive classical dance training, which are drawn from various traditional disciplines such as Chinese opera, Chinese acrobatics, taichi, martial arts, and ballet.

XDE performs widely in the Greater Washington DC Metro area. Besides having a prominent presence in the DC area Chinese community, XDE also performed on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage and at various Metro DC dance events such as the Annual World Dance Showcase of DC, the VelocityDC Festival, Virginia Dance Coalition’s Annual Showcase Gala and DanceFest, the Atlas Center’s Intersections Dance Festival, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. XDE also collaborate with dancers from other cultures to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

Besides performances, members of the XDE have won outstanding awards in dance competitions such as the All American Talent, American Youth Talent and Artist Contest, Global Chinese Dance Competition and the Overseas Taoli Cup Dance Competition.
