Video 4/25/2018: Bernstein Tribute

Artists from Washington, D.C. and New York combine forces to perform a mixed concert of music and movement in tribute to the iconic American composer Leonard Bernstein. The program will include less-commonly performed solo and chamber works by Bernstein along with the world stage premiere of Bernstein Tap & Rap, a modern interpretation of Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances—conceived by Nolan Williams, Jr. with book adapted by Duane Richards—featuring the internationally acclaimed tap dancer Cartier Williams and the Cartier Williams Dance Theatre. Produced by NEWorks Productions as part of its NEWorks@15 performance series.

Video 8/21/2017: New Frontiers: Back to School Youth Rally

In observance of the Great American Eclipse, our nation’s first full solar eclipse in decades, the New Frontiers: Back to School Youth Rally will feature ‘stellar” youth performances by StepAfrika, Split this Rock, Washington Performing Arts’ Children of the Gospel, and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, accompanied by the NEWorks House Band.

Make the Kennedy Center your solar eclipse destination! Come early to experience the eclipse at the Kennedy Center, and then join us for free interactive space and eclipse themed workshops led by Boys and Girls Club from 4-5:30 pm in the Grand Foyer and on the River Terrace.

Video 3/21/2016: Sarafina!

The Howard University Department of Theater Arts and NEWorks Productions present a production of Sarafina! Through story and song, Sarafina! follows students from Morris Isaacson High School in Soweto as their focus grows beyond the issue of Afrikaans to encompass every aspect of the black political struggle. Directed by Eric Ruffin with choreography by Jakari Sherman, the book, music, and lyrics are by Mbongeni Ngema and arranged by Mbongeni Ngema and Hugh Masekela. This performance is part of the James A. Johnson Young Artist Series, made possible by Target. 

This program contains mature themes and strong language.

Free general admission tickets will be distributed in the States Gallery starting at approximately 5:30 p.m., up to two (2) tickets per person.

Join us for a special concert that features local musical families, in the tradition of the von Trapps, performing a diverse range of music from the classical holiday repertoire.
