Biography

Kate MacDonnell, has been doing yoga for 20 years and teaching yoga for over 10 years in Washington DC.
Kate’s approach to yoga is based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra: Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations of the mind. In her yoga classes students will work towards calming the mind through various practices including movement, postures, breathing exercises, meditation and exploration of yoga philosophy.
She has experienced and continues to study the therapeutic aspects of the practice. In her classes you will be invited to explore deeply the breath in relation to the postures; you will strengthen your awareness and challenge yourself to find the right balance of ease and effort for yourself; and you may even experience the phenomena of lightness that has its roots in a deep appreciation of gravity ...physically or metaphorically.
Kate is a working artist whose photographs are informed by that same field of exploration that we delve into in yoga, that which is the deepest part of ourselves, non-dual, and tied to all life.

    Join us Saturday mornings for a FREE all-levels vinyasa yoga class in the Grand Foyer--part of the Kennedy Center's Sound Health program connecting the performing arts to mind-body wellness. An instructor from a different local yoga studio will lead each session.
