James Francis Deighan



Biography

James Francis Deighan became a member of the National Symphony Orchestra in 1984, after 11 years with the Baltimore Symphony.  He received his bachelor's degree from the Curtis Institute and played with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada. He has studied with Karel Blaas, Frank Mele, Joseph de Pasquale, and William Primrose.  He plays on a viola made in 1972 by Sergio Peresson.  As a member of the Kennedy String Quartet and Kennedy Trio, he has performed in schools in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, as well as across the country during the National Symphony Orchestra’s American Residencies. Jim enjoys teaching viola lessons each summer in the NSO’s Summer Music Institute.
