Richard Webster



Biography

Double bass player Richard Webster has been a member of the National Symphony Orchestra since 1964. He attended the Eastman School of Music where he earned a bachelor's and then a master's degree in piano, double bass, and music history. Awarded a performer's certificate on double bass, Mr. Webster served as assistant to Frederick Fennell, director of the Eastman Wind Ensemble.

Mr. Webster has been a professor of music at Georgetown University since 1966 where he spends much of his time developing coursework in jazz studies. He has lectured extensively on American Music at the Smithsonian Institution and is a regular lecturer for visiting Fulbright Scholars, Tuebingen Students, the IREX Soviet Teacher's Exchange, Georgetown Alumni College, and other visitors from around the world.
