David Whaley


Hornist David Whaley joined the National Symphony Orchestra in 1975, having played two years as principal hornist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Whaley was associate professor of music at Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas and associate professor of music at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, his musical family greatly influenced his early interest in music. He earned his Master's and Doctor's degrees in music from Drake University and the University of Illinois. When not performing with the National Symphony, Mr. Whaley teaches throughout the Washington area and is a member of the music faculty of George Mason University.
