Linda Maguire


Since her 1985 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation debut, Linda Maguire's vocal richness, technique and dramatic presence have been internationally acclaimed. Recent highlights include her highly praised debut as Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito (Dallas Opera, opposite Frederica von Stade), the title role of Rossini's Ermione (filmed by the BBC for Glyndebourne Festival), Dido in Dido and Aeneas (Houston Grand Opera, filmed by the CBC at Versailles Court Theatre), Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice (Netherlands), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (Ottawa’s National Arts Centre), Iphigenie in Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride (Toronto's Opera in Concert), and Sylva in Kálmán's Die Csárdásfürstin (Toronto Operetta Theatre). Other films include Vivaldi's Orlando furioso for CBC. Among her many forthcoming concerts are Verdi's Requiem and a Last Night of the Proms concert (Vancouver Bach Society), Penderecki's Credo (Toronto Mendelssohn Choir), Rossini's Stabat Mater (Niagara Symphony), and a New Year’s Eve Concert (North Carolina Symphony). 

Concert highlights include a program of Handel arias with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (recorded for broadcast), Mozart's C-minor Mass with Montreal Symphony, Penderecki's Polish Requiem with Vancouver Bach Society, and Last Night of the Proms and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Toronto Symphony.

Recordings include an acclaimed Handel's Resurrezione with Les Musiciens du Louvre  (Deutsche Grammophon Archiv); a highly praised CD including Berlioz' Les Nuits d'ete, Wagner's Wesendonklieder and Respighi's Il Tramonto with CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Mario Bernardi conducting; Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' Job (Collins Classics); Verdi's Requiem, with I Virtuosi di Praga (benefitting land mine victims); and Elmira in Handel's Floridante with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (1993 Juno Award winner).

Ms. Maguire’s versatility includes popular and Broadway repertoire:  Gershwin’s music for the CBC Radio International Series, pops concerts with many distinguished orchestras, and programs that range from Schoenberg's Cabaret Songs (recorded for CBC) to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music.

She also commissions and regularly appears in contemporary compositions. She sang the role of Sharon Falconer in Aldridge’s Elmer Gantry for Boston Lyric Opera, and appeared as British heroine Florence Nightingale in Sullivan's Florence, the Lady with the Lamp.
