Biography

Maya Dumchenko was born in St. Petersburg and graduated from Vaganova Ballet Academy in the class of Professor Nina Sakhnovskaya. She joined Mariinsky Theatre in 1995, became a soloist in 1996, and was a first prizewinner of the Vaganova-Prix at the Third International Ballet Competition in St. Petersburg in 1995. Ms. Dumchenko's roles include La Sylphide in La Sylphide, Giselle in Giselle, Princess Aurora/Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty, Masha in The Nutcracker, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Lady Dryad/Kitri/variation in Don Quixote, Henrietta/Clemance in Raymonda, Pas de Trois in Swan Lake, Pas de Trois from the scene "The Kingdom of Shades" in La Bayadere, Maria in The Fountain of Bakhchisaray, Lucile Grahn in Pas de Quatre, Shyrin in The Legend of Love, Valse in G flat major/Valse in C Sharp minor in Chopiniana, the Ballerina in Petrushka, Emeralds and Rubies in Jewels, and Firebird in The Firebird. She has also danced in "Paquita" Grand Pas, Pas de Six "La Vivandiere," In the Night, Symphony in C, Serenade, and Poeme de L`Extase.
