Makharbek Vaziev



Biography

Makharbek Vaziev was born in Alagir, North Ossetia. He graduated from the Vaganova Academy, under Yuri Umrikhin, in 1981. He joined the Kirov Ballet in 1979 and became a principal dancer in 1989. In 1995 Mr. Vazievwas appointed Director of the Kirov Ballet. His repertoire includes: James (La Sylphide), Solor (La Bayadere), Ferkhad (The Legend of Love), and the Golden Slave (Sheherazade). During his Directorship, the following new productions have been added to the repertoire of the Kirov Ballet: Balanchine's Symphony in C, Serenade, Apollo, and Jewels; Roland Petit's Carmen and Le jeune homme et la mort; Kennet MacMillan's Manon; Alexei Ratmansky's Le baiser de la fee and Poeme de l'extase; Petrushka's Middle Duo; and the recreation of the 1890 production of The Sleeping Beauty.
