Primitivity

Biography

Primitivity is a cello and percussion ensemble from Washington D.C. that blends elements of classical and heavy metal music into a new genre called cello rock.  Cellist Loren Westbrook-Fritts, Artist in Residence at Strathmore Music Hall 2010, composes the music and provides the leads.  Cellists David Teie of the National Symphony, Kristin Ostling of the Baltimore Symphony, and Mauricio Betanzo of the Maryland Symphony all shred out intense riffs and harmonies.  Percussionist Robby Burns from the University of Maryland completes the band with a rumbling of drum hits.  Specializing in original compositions, Primitivity also performs the music of Megadeth, Apocalyptica, and Metallica.  In their debut album Plays Megadeth For Cello, available now on Itunes, Amazon, and CDbaby, Primitivity pays ode to one of the greatest rock bands in history.  As Primitivity blends refined classical approaches and the new sounds of heavy metal, these focused artists ensure that rock cello will thrive forever.
