Cavin Castaneda

Biography

Cavin Castaneda is a visual and performing artist whose interest in art was sparked as a child in elementary school. He is a Native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and Filipino man (kane) in his late thirties. His life journey led him to the island of Kauai, Hawaii, where he traced his family genealogy back as far as the 1800s while also learning the art of hula and chant where they originated. Since then, he has prevailed in recovering from a life-threatening illness. Castaneda lives with HIV/AIDS, which has led to the need for the flexibility and convenience afforded by self-employment as an artist.
