Kristina Winiarski



Biography

16 year old Kristina Winiarski, currently in her first year of the NSO Youth Fellowship Program, recently moved to the U.S. from Sweden. While living in Moscow at the age of six, she began playing the cello and made her solo debut with an orchestra at eight years-old. Since then she has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras in both Sweden and Russia, including the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. Miss Winiarski has also won several competitions in Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, and most recently in the Washington, D.C. area. In November 2010, she won the National Philharmonic Concerto Competition. Since February 2010 she has held a scholarship from the Swedish Royal Music Academy that has assigned her a cello made by the famous builder Peter Westerlund. Miss Winiarski is a member of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras at the Music Center at Strathmore where she is a principal cellist in the Philharmonic.
