Ron Reid and Sunsteel



Biography

Ron Reid, steelpans & percussion
Ron has led Sunsteel in various incarnations for over 20 years. A bassist, educator, and composer, he also serves as an Associate professor of Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music. He has recorded several calypso and soca recordings and performed with jazz artists Randy Weston, Carmen Lundy, Antonio Hart, Dave Samuels’ Carribean Jazz Project, and Othello Molineax.
 
Daniel Day, bass
Originally from Paramaribo, Suriname, Daniel, a Berklee College alumnus has performed with Boston-based Wildest Dreams, Bob Moses & Mozamba, the Metro Steel Orchestra, Culture Jam, Cosmos Factor, Orch-estra La Original, Dr. Dre, Oleta Adams, and Dennis Chambers.
 
Ricardo Monzon, percussion
Ricardo is a drummer percussion and educator and has performed with the Boston Pops, Myanna, George Duke, Deborah Henson-Conant, and Orquestra Sinfonica of Guatemala. He teaches at Berklee College and has created an instructional DVD entitled Basic Afro-Cuban Rhythms.
 
Sean Skeete, drums
Sean has performed with Oleta Adams, Marvin Winans, Walter Beasley and George Russell Jr., and several of Boston’s most dynamic performers. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and currently the Asst. Chair of the college’s Ensemble department.
 
Tuffus Zimbabwe, piano
A graduate of Berklee College and New York University’s Steinhart School of Music, Tuffus is a prolific composer and arranger. He began his studies in jazz piano at Berklee’s City Music Program and returned to teach a jazz ensemble after his graduation with a degree in Film Scoring and Music Business. He has also served as an instructor in NYU’s piano school during his graduate studies at the university.
