Johnny Graham and the Groove

Biography

Musician Johnny Graham blends jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and rock into an eclectic musical mix. This 23-year-old Baltimore native is a gifted poet, trumpet, flugelhorn, and piano player who bridges old school soul with new school creativity. He performs alongside his band The Groove which features some of the finest musicians in the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas.

After playing in several bands in high school, Graham’s music career really started at the University of Maryland where he met several of the original members of The Groove. It was at the school’s monthly on-campus open mic where Graham and the band honed their skills. The band eventually gained the attention of other local colleges and universities, leading into a regional college tour in 2009. Together with The Groove, Graham has performed at more than 100 venues up and down the east coast including the National Black Family Reunion on the National Mall, the Lyric Opera House, and more than 30 colleges.

In July of 2010, Graham released his first solo project Coming Of Age which featured his own production and live instrumentation from The Groove. Graham is currently working on his sophomore project Summer Falls which will be released in early 2012. His most recent release “Dear Summer” is the lead single for Summer Falls. The song features emcee Ike Da Kid and singer/songwriter Seph Ade, as well as production and instrumental performance from Graham.
