Leo An


South Korean baritone Leo An makes his WNO debut in this production. He studied at the National Arts Academy in Seoul and at the Milan Conservatory. In 2000 he won first prize at the Voci Verdiane competition in Busseto and third prize at the Francisco Viñas competition in Barcelona. In 2002 he won the third prize at the Belvedere Competition in Vienna. He debuted in 2000 as Giorgio Germont in La traviata at Teatro Pala in Busseto. Since then he has sung Guglielmo in Rossini's Guglielmo Tell for AsLiCo in Milan; Ping in Turandot, the title role in Rigoletto, and Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at Teatro Comunale in Florence; Count di Luna in Il trovatore at Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Teatro Coccia in Novara, and at the San Gimignano Festival; Germont in La traviata in Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Sassari, Korea, and at Luglio Musicale Trapanese; the title role in Rigoletto in Como, Seoul, and at the San Gimignano Festival; Alidoro in La Cenerentola in Pisa, Lucca, and Livorno; Gerard in Andrea Chénier in Bergamo, Cremona, Pavia, Como, Cagliari, and at Luglio Musicale Trapanese; Valentine in Faust and Carmina Burana in Novara; Marchese in Machado's Lauriana at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon; the title role of Nabucco at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari and in Vercelli; Scarpia in Tosca at Teatro Verdi in Sassari; Lescaut in Manon Lescaut at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari; and Pagano in I Lombardi alla prima crociata at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
