Benjamin J. Lester



Biography

Benjamin J. Lester was born in New Hampshire and raised in Connecticut where he began his dance training at the age of 7.  Mr. Lester has studied all over the US on full scholarship including Nutmeg Ballet, School of the Hartford Ballet, School of American Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet School.  In 1995 Mr. Lester moved to Seattle, Washington to train and then to join the Pacific Northwest Ballet, dancing works by George Balanchine and others such as Kent Stowell, Eugene Loring, Val Caniparoli, Sonia Dawkins, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Rudi Van Dantzig, William Forsythe, Kirk Peterson, and Mark Dendy.  While there he performed internationally, taught patrons and children, and was a founding board member for Second Stage, a career transition organization for dancers.  In 2000 Mr. Lester moved to New York City to become a freelance artist and has recently worked with the Connecticut/Zig Zag Ballet.  This is his second season with The Suzanne Farrell Ballet.  Some choreographers Benjamin has had the privilege of working with are Michael Utoff, Edward Morgan, Ian Bell, Miro Magloire, Brett Raphael, Darrell Moultrie, Christopher Fleming, Scott Thyberg, and Miguel Gutierrez.  Mr. Lester also has several film credits, teaches dance, and is an event designer/stylist.
