The Carol Ringers


The Carol Ringers, a choir of sixteen high school age youth, and the Peace Ringers, a choir of seventeen adults, perform a repertoire of classical, sacred, folk, and popular music.  The choirs have a reputation for excellence which has grown over the years.  The Carol Ringers travel for ten days each summer, presenting concerts in churhes and attending a Handbell Festival Conference sponsored by the Handbell Musicians of America.  The choirs have performed at Constitution Hall as guest artists of the Air Force Band, nine times at the White House,  at the National Gallery of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Kennedy Center Concert Hall Stage, perform yearly on the Millennium Stage of the Kennedy Center and on NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN news and special programming.  Last year the Carol Ringers performed at the State Department for the party for ambassadors. The ringers perform on seven octaves of Schulmerich handbells, and seven octaves of Malmark choir chimes.  They have made five recordings  including a Christmas CD.

Nancy Cappel, founder and director of the Carol and Peace Ringers has completed her 44th year as the Director of Music at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA.  She directs four vocal choirs and six of the eight handbell choirs.  Nancy has a BS in Music Education from Manchester University and an MA in Music from Ball State University, both in Indiana.  Nancy taught elementary music for nine years and directed four handbell choirs at The Potomac School in McLean, VA for eleven years.   She is a well known handbell clinician/festival director across the nation, having directed two national festivals, several area festivals, and been the primary handbell clinician at directors’ seminars and church music conferences.   Nancy has written several articles published in the Overtones, the official publication of the Handbell Musicians of America.   Her book on “Children and Beginning Handbells” is widely used.
