Arachne Aerial Arts


Arachne Aerial Arts specializes in elevated duo performance for theaters, museums, galleries, special events and non-traditional venues. The company’s work has been presented locally at venues including The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Dance Place, Club Nation, Torpedo Factory Art Center, Woolly Mammoth Theater, The Atlas and the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The DC-based duo also performs at corporate events throughout the region. Co-founders Andrea Burkholder and Sharon Witting began flying together in 2000 and have continued their intensive training at the New England Center for Circus Arts with Elsie Smith and Serenity Smith Forchion, former members of Cirque du Soleil. In 2007 the company received a Metro DC Dance Award for best emerging performing group. When not on stage, Andrea and Sharon offer workshops and private aerial instruction in the Washington area.

Alvin Hill Jr. is a Detroit-based multimedia composer. He studied classical violin and piano from the age of four and completed his BA at Dartmouth College, where he studied with composer Jon Appleton. He has worked as a professional DJ for over 25 years, holding residencies in Detroit, NYC and LA. Alvin has worked with many Detroit luminaries, including Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Carl Craig. He has also composed scores and performed with dance companies throughout the US, including Arachne Aerial Arts, The Playground and Koichi Tamano & Harupin-Ha.
