Artes de CubaCUBA GOES TAP by Keyla Orozco featuring Max Pollak (Washington, D.C. / New York)

5/18/2018 at 6:00 PM

Created by Cuban Dutch composer Keyla Orozco and featuring acclaimed tap-dancer Max Pollack, Cuba Goes Tap merges American rhythm tap with Afro-Cuban music and dance. The central focus of the program is Orozco's Traveling Shoe Stories, a work for tap dancer and chamber ensemble, in which Cuban and Venezuelan folk music, western classical tradition, pop, jazz, improvisation, and tap come together. Written and improvised music and dance have equal roles in the show, which includes works by Cuban composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, reimagined alongside tap improvisation.

Presented as part of the Kennedy Center's "Artes de Cuba: From the Island to the World" festival. For all festival programming, please click HERE.
