Metro Symbol Transportation from Metro
The Kennedy Center Shuttle is lift-equipped (max. 500 lbs.) and wheelchair accessible. These red vans run between the Foggy Bottom-George Washington University Metro station (on the Orange and Blue lines, at 23rd and I streets, NW) and the Kennedy Center every 15 minutes from 9:45 a.m.-midnight Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-midnight Saturdays, and noon-midnight Sundays, and 4 p.m.-midnight on federal holidays.

Accessibility Symbol Accessible Tours
All tours are wheelchair accessible. Sign interpreted and touch tours are offered upon request with 2 weeks prior notice. Patrons may call the Visitor Center at (202) 416-8340 (voice) or (202) 416-8524 (TTY) for more information.

Ticket Symbol Specially Priced Tickets
People with permanent disabilities may purchase specially priced tickets by obtaining an SPT card. This allows you to order two tickets at half price. To obtain an SPT card, mail a letter or other certification from your doctor stating that you have a permanent disability along with your name, address, and phone number to: Friends of the Kennedy Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC 20566-0001. Your SPT card will be mailed within two to three weeks. With your card you can order tickets in advance of the first performance or on the day of the performance by calling (202) 416-8528.

  Careers in the Arts Initiatives
The mission of the Career in the Arts Initiative is to support opportunities for individuals with disabilities to successfully pursue a career in the arts and to support the arts organizations that provide opportunities. These initiatives include:

  • Experiential Education Initiative (EEI) Internship
    An internship program designed to offer meaningful instruction and cultural arts experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities. (Ongoing)

  Professional Resources— The Kennedy Center supports accessibility efforts on a national and international basis by providing resources and information on making the arts accessible to everyone. These resources include:
  • Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability (LEAD) - an international network of cultural organizations working towards creating universally inclusive environments and programs in the cultural arts. The network hosts an annual training and conference for ADA/504 Coordinators and Accessibility Managers in the Cultural Arts, and an on-going listserv for information sharing.

  • "Assistive Listening Devices for People with Hearing Loss: A Guide for Performing Arts Settings"

  • Tip Sheets – Information on a variety of topics for ADA/504 Coordinators, accessibility managers, or other cultural arts professionals interested in making their facilities and programming more accessible to people with disabilities.
