Twenty-six-year-old actor, director, and writer Khayalethu Anthony started performing while in grade seven at the Matthew Goniwe Secondary School in Khayelitsha, South Africa. He continued his studies at New Africa Theatre Academy, where he studied acting and performance. There, he performed the role of John Proctor in The Crucible. Mr. Anthony is a founding member of the Imbawula Theatre Company, which has staged productions such as Highway, Inqwithelo Zemimoya, and, most recently, Ukuqhawuka kweqhina.
Mr. Anthony made his mainstream theater debut with Solomon and Marion, after being selected out of 14 actors during a rigorous audition process. He was nominated for Best Script Writer at the Baxter Theatre's 2012 Zabalaza Theatre Festival, where he wrote and directed Inqwithelo Zemimoya, which was performed in isiXhosa, with his Khayelitsha-based company, Imbawula Theatre Company. Earlier this year, he performed in Waiting for the Barbarians in Canada.
