Elmaz Abinader


Author, poet, and playwright Elmaz Abinader won the 2002 Goldies Award for Literature, a PEN/Josephine Miles award for poetry, and two Drammies (Oregon's Drama Circle) for her performances. Author of a memoir, Children of the Roojme (University of Wisconsin Press); a collection of poetry, In the Country of My Dreams... (Sufiwarrior Publishing); and several one-woman shows, including Thirty Two Mohammeds and Country of Origin. She has a new poetry collection, The Torture Quartet and Other Acts of Poetry; a memoir, The Water Cycle; and a novel, When Silence was Frightening, forthcoming. Abinader is a co-founder of the Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation that holds workshops for Writers of Color, and teaches at Mills College.
