Freedom High School Artist Guitar Ensemble


The Freedom Artist Guitar Ensemble is based at Freedom High School in South Riding, Loudoun County, Virginia. One of the fastest growing regions in the country, Loudoun County has 15 public high schools that offer a 4 level (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Artist) program of studies for the guitar that is gaining national recognition in public music education. Freedom High School serves a diverse population of students from the South Riding community and the ensemble’s repertoire includes music from around the world in addition to classical, romantic, folk and 20th century styles.

The Freedom Artist Guitar Ensemble, directed by Samuel Wong, has produced 45 All Virginia Guitar Ensemble members for the past 5 years. Numerous students from this program have also won awards in local and regional guitar competitions for the past ten years including the Beatty Music Scholarship Competition in D.C., the Aguado Guitar Competition in Sterling, VA, the Columbus State Guitar Symposium Competition in GA and the ECU Summer Guitar Festival Competition in N.C. Students have performed at numerous festivals and venues around the region including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Samuel Wong received his Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts under Aaron Shearer and the Master of Music in Guitar Performance from Florida State University where he served as a graduate assistant to Bruce Holzman.
