El Septeto Santiago



Biography

On February 2, 1995, in the legendary Casa de la Trova of Santiago de Cuba, the birthplace of son and bolero, Fernando Dewar founded the Santiaguero Septet.

 After 23 years devoted to traditional Cuban music, the group is in one of the most important moments of his career, and has a notable presence in national and international venues and media.

In the most recent Lucas Awards gala, which highlights the best of the Cuban video clip, he was awarded the Key Artist of the Year Award, a special award granted by Canal Clave for the dissemination of national heritage values. The clip videos of the songs "La canción de trova" and "La meneadera", were nominated in the categories of Traditional and Folk Music, and Production, respectively.

Both numbers belong to Root, until the moment the last record production of the Septet, which was nominated in 2017 to the Latin Grammy, as Best Traditional Tropical Album. Before, in 2015, I Do not Want Crying-Tribute to Los Compadres, won the award in the same category and was nominated for the 2016 Grammy Award as Best Tropical Latin Album. Nominations to the important recognition also received Vamos pa' la fiesta, in 2013, and Oye mi son santiaguero, in 2011. Both phonograms won the CUBADISCO prize.

In his recordings have participated the likes of José Alberto El Canario, Cheo Feliciano, Ruben Blades, Oscar D'Leone, Eliades Ochoa, Andy Montanez, Ismael Miranda, Aymee Nuviola, Reinaldo Creagh, Shark Morales, Edwin Bonilla, Jimmy Bosch, Edwin Colón Zayas, Alejandro Almenares, Luisito Quintero ...

His repertoire is a journey through different aspects of Cuban popular music, with emphasis on the traditional, from a contemporary perspective. They work works of classic authors, in perfect agreement with works of contemporary Cuban authors among which are several members of the same group.
 Since its foundation, they have performed in more than 30 countries, in different venues and festivals, in many of the most important venues in the world, in different circuits: salsa, jazz, world music ...

The City Council of Santiago de Cuba gave them the Key to the City in 2014 and the Flag of the City in 2015. According to the specialized critics are those destined to succeed the Buena Vista Social Club on the stages of the world.
