The german soprano Diana Damrau startet her international career in 2002. She was then invited to sing at the most important theatres like Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Vienna, Brussels, Washington and London and since 2002 at the Salzburg Festival.
She has sung under the direction of renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Riccardo Muti, Ivor Bolton, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Pierre Boulez, Peter Schneider and James Levine on the opera stage as well as the concert podium.
Her extensive French and Italian repertoire ranges from Gilda in Rigoletto, Leila in Les Pêcheurs De Perles, the title role of Lakmé, to the full lyric roles of the German repertoire, as well as contemporary works (the Small Woman in the premiere of Cerha's Der Riese Vom Steinfeld at the Wiener Staatsoper, Hérodiade Fragemente by Pintscher, "1984" by Maazel/world premiere 2005 at Royal Opera House Covent Garden London).
As a most appreciated interpreter of Mozart and Strauss roles, she can be heard as Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna 2006), Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte (Munich, London, Salzburger Festspiele 2006), Zdenka in Arabella (Munich), Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier (Dresden, Munich, Vienna), Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos (Dresden, Vienna, London, Met New York 2005) and Aminta in Il re pastore (Munich 2010).
In December 2004, she sang the title role of Salieri's L'europa Riconosciuta at the occasion of the reopening of La Scala under the direction of Riccardo Muti.
At the Metropolitan Opera New York she performed Die Ägyptische Helena, Il barbiere di Siviglia in 2007, Lucia Di Lammermoor in 2008, Rigoletto in 2009, La fille du régiment in 2010 and Comte Ory in 2011.
In the season 2009-10 she debuted in La fille du régiment and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni in San Francisco and in 2011 I Puritani at the Geneva Opera.
Engagements in the season 2011-12 include Les Contes d'hoffmann in Munich, Linda Di Chamonix in Barcelona, Il barbiere di Siviglia and L'elisir d'amore in New York, Mignon in Genéve and Lucia Di Lammermoor in Vienna.
Future engagements among others are Robert Le Diable in London, Rigoletto in New York, La Traviata in New York and Zurich, Harlots Progress in Vienna, and La Sonnambula in Barcelona and New York.
She is one of the most demanded singers for her repertoire and she will participate in new productions at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Opera Geneve, the opera in Vienna, at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera and the opera in Barcelona.
After many recordings with German Lied repertoire by Telos Music and Orfeo she now has an exclusive contract with Virgin/EMI Classics. She now has five Solo-CDs "Arie di bravura", "Mozart Donna" and "Coloratura", "Poesie" songs from Strauss (conductor: Christian Thielemann) and "Liszt Lieder", accompanied by the pianist Helmut Deutsch appeared in October 2011. With DGG she now has a DVD of Rosenkavalier and a recital-CD, accompanied by harp.
