Sophie Kahn

Biography

Sophie Kahn was born in London and grew up in Melbourne. Her work, which has been exhibited internationally, owes its Victorian-futurist aesthetic to the interaction of old and new media, or the digital and the analog. It encompasses media from 3-D laser scanning and digital animation to 2-D and 3-D printing and bronze casting. Kahn trained as a photographer and received a bachelor of arts in fine art and art history from Goldsmiths College, University of London. She returned to Melbourne after graduation and studied spatial information architecture at the RMIT University. Kahn turned to new media when she developed chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia and could no longer perform the physical work that photography required. She continues to use her art practice to explore a changed relationship with her physical self. Kahn lives in Brooklyn.
