Biography

French mezzo-soprano Géraldine Chauvet makes her WNO debut in this production. She is a frequent performer at Arena di Verona: first in 2009 in Zeffirelli's Carmen conducted by Maestro Domingo, a role she reprised with the company in the summer of 2010. She sang Fenena in 2011, and this summer she will once again sing the role of Carmen. Other recent engagements include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at Festival Avanches; Carmen in Ravenna, Modena, and Piacenza; Adalgisa in Cremona, Pavia, and Como; Donna Anna in Paccini's Il convitato di Pietra at the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad; as well as her first Charlotte in Werther with Maestro Guingal in Reggio Calabria, Italy. In 2010 and 2011 she sang Carmen in Tokyo with Plácido Domingo, and also in Pamplona, Bordeaux, at Festival Sanxay, and at Teatro San Carlo in Naples; Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Brescia, Bergamo, Cremona, Ravenna, Lucca, and Savona; Donizetti's Il diluvio universale and Requiem in St. Gallen; Isabella in L'italiana in Algeri in Savona; Cenerentola in Brescia and Pavia; and Adalgisa and Fenena in Athens. This season she sings Dalila in Seoul, Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, Mère Marie in Dialogues des carmélites in Massy, Adriano in Wagner's Rienzi in New York, and Carmen at Arena di Verona.
