The work of American stage director David Gately was last seen at WNO in The Barber of Seville (2010). Other productions for WNO include Carmen (2008), Hansel and Gretel (2007), and La traviata (1979). During the 2012-13 season he joins the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Angels in America, Atlanta Opera for La traviata, Fort Worth Opera for Ariadne auf Naxos, and Boston University’s Fringe Festival for Massenet’s Le portrait de Manon. His longtime association with Fort Worth Opera includes the world premiere production of Before Night Falls, as well as productions of Lysistrata, Julius Caesar, Cinderella, Dead Man Walking, La traviata, La bohème, The Italian Girl in Algiers, Little Women, Salome, Norma, The Barber of Seville, Falstaff, and Don Pasquale. His hugely successful “Wild West” production of Don Pasquale has also been mounted by San Diego Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera Colorado, Calgary Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Virginia Opera, Dayton Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Opera Omaha, and Edmonton Opera. Future seasons include engagements with the Fort Worth Opera, Atlanta Opera, and Opera Colorado, among others.
