Biography

American baritone Norman Garrett is in his second year of WNO's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. This fall he appears as a Steersman in WNO's Tristan and Isolde, and he recently made his Wolf Trap Opera debut as Filene Young Artist, performing the roles of Ford from Verdi's Falstaff and Il Barone di Trombonok from Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims Last season with WNO he was seen as Masetto in Don Giovanni (Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performance), in the premiere of the American Opera Initiative, and as the Father in Hansel and Gretel. He made his Glimmerglass Festival debut in the summer of 2012 as Amonasro in Aida, a role he reprised at Opera Santa Barbara in March 2013, and covered La Haine in Armide. A former resident artist of the Academy of Vocal Arts, he has been seen on stage with Kentucky Opera and Cincinnati Opera, and more recently with the Philadelphia Center City Opera Theater where he has sung such roles as Marcello (La bohème), Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). In 2012 he won prizes in 7 different international vocal competitions such as, The Gerda Lissner Foundation also The William Matheus Sullivan Foundation, Giulio Gari, Ft. Worth McCammon, Licia Albanese-Puccini Competition, and more.
