Video 12/21/2017: Listen Local First D.C./The 9 Songwriter Series

For the sixth year in a row Listen Local First D.C. is teaming up with The 9 Songwriter Series to present a holiday spectacular featuring some of our most talented DMV musicians performing their favorite holiday tunes! Listen Local First D.C. (LLF) is a local music initiative devoted to building awareness and creating opportunities for local musicians to raise the profile of D.C.’s local music scene. LLF supports Fair Trade Music principles and has been working with local government agencies and officials to establish a permanent D.C. local music taskforce to advocate for musician specific interests within the broader creative economy.

Listen Local First D.C. and The Holiday 9 Songwriter Showcase present their fifth annual holiday extravaganza, a show with nine of the area’s most talented songwriters and musicians—Gina Sobel, Gingerwolf, Flex Matthews, Drew Kid, Justin Trawick, Joe Maye, Saba Abraha, Janel Leppin, and Alison Carney—collaborating to present an evening of traditional and seasonal songs for the entire family.

Video 3/29/2016: Listen Local First: Oh He Dead and Herb & Hanson

Listen Local First D.C. presents Oh He Dead and duo Herb & Hanson in a preview of the 7th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival, which takes place on April 30, 2016. Hosted by the Living Classrooms Foundation, it is D.C.’s premiere bluegrass, Americana, and folk festival featuring local musicians.

Video 12/21/2015: The 9 Songwriter Series: 4th Annual Holiday Extravaganza

Over the last three years, the 9 Songwriter Series has brought joy and holiday cheer to the Millennium Stage. Made up of nine musicians and other groups from the nation’s capital, this year’s 4th Annual Holiday Extravaganza features both traditional and seasonal songs sung for one purpose only – to brighten your mood! Come celebrate the holiday season and make sure to wear something festive.

Video 11/28/2015: Listen Local First: The Harry Bells

Listen Local First DC presents The Harry Bells, a horn-and-percussion-driven tribute to the music of Harry Belafonte. They will be performing their own interpretations of his songs, in addition to arrangements of holiday classics, in their own style.

Video 8/31/2015: Spread Love

Listen Local First presents, a five-piece band with humble roots in Washington, D.C. The newly formed group has been active since 2014 and performs in the folk-street music style.

Video 7/30/2015: The El Mansouris

The D.C. band is the creative union of artists Alex Braden (Young Rapids, Bella Russia), Drew Hagelin (Cigarette), Margot MacDonald, Sam Raymond (Rival Skies), Sarah Schaffer (Lies About), and Fiona Kohrman. A finalist in NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest, the group made its live debut by playing three consecutive sold out performances in February 2015. Presented in collaboration with Listen Local First D.C.

The DC-based, Baltimore-bred electro/acoustic composer and songwriter uniquely combines thoughtful and introspective lyrics with acoustic and electronic arrangements. Presented in collaboration with Listen Local First DC.
