Enrico Iori



Biography

Enrico Iori studied at the Conservatory of Parma, and attended master classes with Lucetta Bizzi, Carlo Bergonzi and Carlo Meliciani.

 

A renowned Verdian bass, he made his debut in 1996, since then he performed in important opera houses and concert halls including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Filarmonico and Arena di Verona, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Teatro Valli di Reggio Emilia, Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo, Macerata Opera Festival, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro Saõ Carlos in Lisbon, Festival de Avenches and Bolshoj Theatre in Moscow.

 

He worked with such important conductors as Bruno Bartoletti, Bruno Campanella, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, Georges Prêtre, Renato Palumbo, Donato Renzetti, Carlo Rizzi, Jeffrey Tate, and such directors as Daniele Abbado, Liliana Cavani, Denis Krief, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Lamberto Puggelli, Luca  Ronconi, Emilio Sagi, Franco Zeffirelli.

 

His repertory includes such roles as Oroveso (Norma), Giorgio (I Puritani), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia), Colline (La bohème), Timur (Turandot), Oberto (Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Silva (Ernani), Attila (Attila), Banco (Macbeth), Walter (Luisa Miller), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Padre Guardiano (La forza del destino), Filippo II (Don Carlo), Re (Aida).

 

He recorded several titles, such as Aida (Zeffirelli’s production in Busseto), Aroldo (Pier Luigi Pizzi’s production), Lucia di Lammermoor and Lucrezia Borgia (from Festival Donizetti di Bergamo), Macbeth (dvd; live from Teatro Regio di Parma).

 

During the 2010/11 season he performed La forza del destino and Aida at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and in tournée in Tokyo under the baton of Zubin Mehta, La Wally in Frankfurt, Il trovatore (Ferrando) at the Teatro Politeama in Lecce, Lucia di Lammermoor (Raimondo) at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Turandot (Timur) at the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago.



He also made his much awaited Teatro alla Scala debut performing the title role of Verdi’s Attila.

 

He opened the 2011/12 season performing Don Carlo (Filippo II) at the Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon, followed by Ernani (Don Ruy Gomez de Silva) in Sassari, La Damnation de Faust (Brander) at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, La battaglia di Legnano (Federico Barbarossa) at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and Norma (Oroveso) at the Teatro Regio di Torino.

 

Among his future plans are, Ernani (Don Ruy Gomez de Silva) at the Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, Rigoletto (Sparafucile) at the Metropolitan in New York, and La forza del destino (Padre Guardiano) at the Washington National Opera.
