American baritone Eric Greene, praised for his fine musicianship and resonant baritone voice, is making his mark throughout the world. He made his first foray into the Wagnerian repertoire performing the role of Melot in Tristan und Isolde in Concert at the Casals Festival in his Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra debut, then subsequently sang Donner in Das Rheingold at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and also covered the roles of Donner and Gunther in Seattle Opera's 2013 Ring Cycle.
He thrilled UK audiences and critics alike as Billy Bigelow in Opera North's new production of Carousel, and likewise stunned in his creation of the leading role of Segismundo in the World Premiere of Jonathan Dove and Alasdair Middleton's Life is a Dream at UK's Birmingham Opera Company.
This season sees returns to Opera Birmingham as Prince Ivan Khovansky in Khovanshchina and Opera North as Gunther in Gotterdämmerung. Future engagements include Crown in Porgy and Bess with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Spoleto Festival USA, Escamillo in Carmen with Portland Opera, and a return to Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
