Joy of Motion Dance Center’s Youth Dance Ensemble



Biography

Since 1976, Joy of Motion Dance Center (JOMDC) has served as a leader in dance education in the greater Washington, DC area. The Youth Dance Ensemble program (YDE)--led by Helen Hayes, recipient of the 2009 Metro DC Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance Education--is Joy of Motion Dance Center's elite program for the developing young dancer, consisting of a Ensemble Company for high school aged students and preparatory levels for 1st through 8th grades. Admission is by audition only. This pre-collegiate program, with core classes in ballet, jazz and modern, provides an experience that inspires excellence in dance, education and life. In addition to core classes, the YDE program incorporates supplemental study in multiple dance forms, dance history, improvisation and composition, and repertory, as well as artist residencies and numerous performance opportunities to create a unique, rewarding and enriching learning experience.
 
The Youth Dance Ensemble has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the Carter Barron Amphitheater, the Greenberg Theater, the Dance Place, the Round House Theater and the Jack Guidone Theater amongst other venues. In 2006, the Youth Dance Ensemble won the prestigious Metro DC Dance Award for Most Outstanding Youth Performance, an award for which they have been finalists three times.
 
The Youth Dance Ensemble strives to develop the young dancer invested in artistic excellence and the creative process while focusing on building life skills that encourage and support a well balanced and meaningful life.
