Smooth & EZ

Established in 1994, the Smooth & EZ (SEZ) Hand Dance Performing Arts Troupe is recognized as the oldest, largest, and best Hand Dance performing arts troupe in the Washington, DC area.

The SEZ Dance Troupe has performed locally and nationally for government and private organizations. We have performed from Washington, DC to Las Vegas, NV from Massachusetts to Atlanta, GA. The Troupe and its individual members have competed in numerous dance competitions. Our experience over the years has served to fortify our skill, development, style, expression, and performances, making SEZ one of the most entertaining overall dance troupes and the most entertaining Hand Dance troupe in the country.

This unique style of performance and teaching method have been so widely received that SEZ was solely responsible for having Hand Dance declared the "official" dance of Washington, DC.

Our performances will not only entertain you but also illustrate an elegant and exciting execution of dance in general and Hand Dance in particular.

A complete performance ranges from just a few minutes to a full hour and includes general couple dancing, trio and quadruple partnering, synchronized routines, youth performances, and line dances, concluding with audience participation.

SEZ also performs old school hand dance, which will dazzle you with an up-beat tempo and intricate footwork. This style tends to be nostalgic for our more experienced audiences while also attracting a youthful crowd. The excitement is amazing.

Venues where the Smooth & EZ Hand Dance Performing Arts Troupe has performed include the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, Historical Lincoln Theater, DC, Smithsonian Institution's Air and Space and Black History museums, George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium, The World Bank, The Mayor's Inaugural Ball, Atlanta Black Arts Festival, Las Vegas, NV, and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, NY.

SEZ has also been honored by such greats as Frankie Manning and the legendary Norma Miller, (First Lady of Swing) and the mayors of Baltimore and the District of Columbia. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton as well as other city officials have recognized and honored Smooth & EZ for its accomplishment in dance.
