American Voices: Musical Theater Master Session with Sutton Foster
David Lai is currently Senior Vice President, IMG Artists, and is an original founder of Park Avenue Artists. David currently manages Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Time for Three, The Five Browns, Ashley Brown, Ryan Silverman, and Kate Davis. He originally began working in artist management when the legendary Jerry Kravat recruited him to work at Park Avenue Talent where David worked with artists including Barbara Cook, Kelli O'Hara, Paulo Szot, Eldar Djangirov, and Sutton Foster. A Grammy Award(r)-winning producer, David's recording credits include recordings ranging from jazz to classical to pop to Broadway. His Broadway cast albums produced include West Side Story (Grammy Award(r)), Evita starring Ricky Martin, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes starring Megan Hilty, South Pacific (Grammy(r) nomination), Promises, Promises starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth, (Grammy(r) nomination), Bonnie and Clyde, Elf, Wonderland, Grease, The Wedding Singer, an all-star cast album of Allegro, and Spanish cast albums of The Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar. Most recently, David served as producer for Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Plácido Domingo and Herbie Hancock/Lang Lang projects. Other Artist recordings he has worked on include five Eldar albums (including the Grammy(r)-nominated album, Re-imagination), Josh Groban, Nathan Gunn, Ashley Brown, Megan Hilty, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, and Howard McGillin. David also was the A&R Executive for the Grammy(r)-winning Songs of Joy & Peace (Yo-Yo Ma) and Grammy(r)-nominated Bach in Havana (Tiempo Libre). David was the Executive Producer for Joshua Bell's At Home with Friends album. He has served as a Consultant Producer for PBS Live at Lincoln Center's broadcasts featuring Renée Fleming and Joshua Bell. He also served as A&R Executive and Music Director for the 4TROOPS.
David has conducted many symphony orchestras including Dallas, Fort Worth, Pacific, Taipei, Jacksonville, and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. Television appearances include The Today Show, GMA, The View, and CBS This Morning. As a music director/pianist, David has appeared at: the Rainbow Room, Caramoor Festival, CBGB's, and the Bottom Line. David also serves as a consultant to Sony Masterworks for classical, jazz, and Broadway recordings. David currently moonlights as Conductor for the Broadway company of The Phantom of the Opera. Other Broadway credits as conductor, music coordinator and/or keyboardist include Evita, Mary Poppins, Wonderland, Bonnie and Clyde, South Pacific, Miss Saigon, Jekyll and Hyde, The Woman in White, Riverdance, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables, and Aspects of Love.
??David received BAs in Engineering, Economics and Music from Brown University, and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Columbia University.
