The members of the Classical Brass have been performing together for over 25 years. In the Washington area they are particularly well known for their radio broadcasts from the National Gallery of Art and their many Christmas performances at the National Cathedral. Over the years, they have shared their own brand of exciting brass chamber music throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia. Their constant search for new and different music for brass quintet has led them in many directions including the acclaimed recording ôhonor to Our Soldiers,ö a CD of Civil War brass music performed on period instruments.
Woodrow English, trumpet, attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a bachelorÆs degree from Eastern Michigan University. Currently a member of the Alexandria Symphony and the Washington Chamber Symphony, Mr. English also works as a soloist and clinician.
Dennis Edelbrock, trumpet, received degrees from the University of Iowa and Catholic University. Dr. Edelbrock is a member of the Washington Bach Consort and the Washington Chamber Symphony as well as a professor of trumpet at George Mason University.
Joseph Lovinsky, horn, hails from Miami, Florida. He attended the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School of Music, and performed as first horn with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra and the National Symphony of the Dominican Republic. He performs regularly with the National Symphony, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra of Wolf Trap and the Maryland Symphony.
Scott Shelsta, trombone, is in great demand as a soloist, traveling throughout the United States for John Philip Sousa reenactment concerts. A native of South Dakota, he holds degrees from Augustana College and the University of Northern Colorado. He has toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and is currently a member of the Washington Chamber Symphony.
Jack Tilbury, tuba, is a graduate of Wichita State University and Catholic University. He is a former member of the Tulsa Philharmonic and currently performs with the Washington Chamber Symphony. Active as a writer, Mr. Tilbury has served as editor of the T.U.B.A. Journal as well as contributor for The Instrumentalist magazine.
