Compass Rose

Biography

Spanning several centuries of maritime history, Compass Rose performances include sea chanteys sung a cappella, tunes played on traditional shipboard instruments, ballads, and contemporary songs of the sea. The group has toured widely and has many recordings to its credit, including many nationally and internationally released CDs. A Compass Rose performance is a nautical voyage that begins with the age of sail and ends with the steamboat era at the turn of the century. Dave Peloquin (lead singer, guitar, harmonica) has been a Mystic Seaport chanteyman since 1981. Known widely for his clear tenor voice, Peloquin has produced two recordings of traditional sea songs, and has appeared on numerous others. Everett Brown (vocals, mandolin, accordion, concertina) has composed many original tunes and is a highly-respected instrumentalist in constant demand as a session musician for recordings of traditional music. Dan Lanier (vocals, fiddle, cittern, banjo, penny whistle) is a Mystic Seaport chanteyman and historic role-player. He is also well-known throughout Southern New England for his work as a contra dance fiddle player and caller.
