Vocalist and acoustic guitarist Don Conoscenti left his home in Chicago when he was seventeen and traveled by thumb, truck, motorcycle and freight train around the United States. (One sideline was scooping home-made ice cream at a shop in Vermont run by two guys named Ben and Jerry.) While living in a van on MarthaÆs Vineyard and playing guitar in a soul act, Conoscenti formed a band with Boston musicians Rick Iannuzzi and Reeves Gabrels. After some false starts, Conoscenti moved to Key West, while Gabrels went to London and became David BowieÆs right-hand guitar man.
Conoscenti is an organic multi-instrumental mix of stories and songs about lovers, outcasts, healing, and redemption. HeÆs been a sought-after side man for Tom Paxton, Ellis Paul and David Wilcox, Musician of the Year in Atlanta, winner of the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest Songwriting Competition, finalist in the National Academy of SongwritersÆ ôAcoustic Artist of the Yearö competition, and played at venues across the country.
Now based in Colorado, Conoscenti tours incessantly and produces CDs on his own label, Cogtone Records, and was spotlighted on both ôWorld Cafeö and ôAcoustic Cafe.ö Featured guests on his CDs include Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls), Ellis Paul, David Wilcox, Pierce Pettis, and Shawn Mullins.
His 1999 release, ôMysterious Light,ö climbed into the top 20 albums played by folk and acoustic DJs worldwide.
