Fine Wine Trio


Pianist Robert Bargad was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1962. He studied with Kenny Barron for three years at Rutgers University in New Jersey before moving to New York. He was part of the Harper Brothers Reunion Tour in Spain, the Yoichi "Monkey" Kobayashi in Japan, and also toured with Roy Hargrove in Europe. BargadÆs recordings include Better Times, The Shadow Of Your Smile, and his most recent CD, Steal the Moon, with Carolyn Leonhart.

Robert Kaplan, drummer and vocalist, was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey in 1942. A graduate of BostonÆs Berklee School of Music, Kaplan has performed in New York clubs including Smoke, and the Blue Note; and at the Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival and the San Miguel International Festival with Etta Jones. His most recent recording with the Fine Wine Trio is Pops. Other albums include Bob Ackerman Live, Between Two Eternities, and Fine Wine Trio.

Gene Perla, bassist, was born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1940, and began his classical piano lessons at the age of five. A graduate of BostonÆs Berklee School of Music, he was inspired to take up the bass after hearing Charlie Haden. Perla has performed and/or recorded with jazz greats and pop artists, including Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Frank Sinatra. He has toured twice to South America in conjunction with the U.S. State Department.

The Fine Wine Trio is one of seven American jazz trios chosen to tour Africa, the Near East, South Asia and Latin and Central America as 2001 Kennedy Center-Department of State Jazz Ambassadors.
