Biography

Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen combine powerful songwriting and outstanding musicianship, prompting one critic to describe them as "just about the classiest duo around."

Since their marriage in April of 1989, Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen have been traveling, performing and recording together. Their album Live In Concert, recorded at the Ark in Ann Arbor, was released by their own company, Compass Rose Music, in 1991. A second duet album called The Light of the Day has been named Top Folk album of 1996 by Rich Warren (WFMT, Chicago) and Matt Watroba (WDET, Detroit). Steve has performed on over 100 college campuses and in 31 countries in his career, and has written songs for film scores of M.G.M.’s The Outfit, Walt Disney’s The Pond, The Grass is Greener, Summer Run and Door To Door. He has also written songs for the Disney characters Jiminy Cricket, Dumbo, Rainbow Brite, and Winnie-the-Pooh. Cindy is well-known for her collaborations, especially with Herdman, Hills, and Mangsen. The trio’s first album, Voices, was released on Flying Fish in 1990 and a second album, Voices of Winter, was released on Gadfly in 1997. Cindy has made appearances on many syndicated radio programs including All Things Considered and Mountain Stage, has been been featured in concert on the public television series “In the Tradition.”
