Stanislavsky Theater Studio's Golden Theater: Pantomime for Youth



Biography

In 1997, The International Stanislavksy Theater Studio Inc. was created when pantomime artist/ actor/ director Paata Tsikurishvili and dancer/ choreographer/ actor Irina Tsikurishvili met actor/ director Andrei Malaev-Babel in Washington, DC. Their first production, A Pantomime for All Ages entitled Kashtanka, The Chestnut Colored Puppy, toured local schools and civic organizations, becoming the foundation of a rapid company expansion into a mainstage repertory, professional training program and outreach program.

In the company’s first five years, the Helen Hayes Awards has honored them with five nominations, four for Outstanding Choreography and one for Outstanding Direction. Irina Tsikurishvili has received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Choreography twice, for Dostoevsky’s The Idiot and Goethe’s Faust.

The development of the outreach program has blossomed this season into The Golden Theater: Pantomime for Youth. Led by the internationally known and celebrated Tsikurishvili team, this branch of the company specializes in the synthesis of Georgian and European pantomime techniques with American physical comedy.
