The Greg Harrison Jazz Band performs the standard jazz tunes in a swing jazz format based on the small bands of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Instrumentation usually includes the clarinet, rhythm guitar, piano, and upright string bass but today, the band will have several vocals included. Personnel include: Greg Harrison, clarinet; Jim McIntyre, bass; Bill Biesecker, guitar; George Minter, piano, and vocalist Marilyn Minter.
The Greg Harrison Jazz Band has performed extensively in the DC Metro area and is noted for its long, continuous tenures at establishments that are otherwise noted for a one night stand venue. Examples would include 8 years at Evans Farm Inn, 3 years at Club 219 and 7 years at Henry Africa’s Restaurant in Olde Town, Alexandria, VA, 3 years at Copelands, and, lately, 5 years at the Timpano Restaurant, which is considered one of the best Italian restaurants in Rockville/Bethesda, MD. In addition the band has performed at 100s of parties for over 25 years, to include the Volunteers Christmas Party Dinner at the Kennedy Center. Further, Greg Harrison performs voluntarily performs at many retirement centers and nursing homes.
Greg Harrison, PhD, P.E., is a forensic engineer and the Vice President of a publicly traded casino company (OTCBB: DHCC). Greg studied classical clarinet with Sidney Forrest and he studied jazz clarinet with Joseph Rinaldi. The most influence, however, came from the famed jazz clarinetist in New Orleans, Pete Fountain, which Greg started to listen to at the age of 12 and continues to do so today. Greg performs on a LeBlanc Pete Fountain model clarinet given to him by Pete.
