Kirk Whipple



Biography

As a duo, pianists/composers Kirk Whipple and Marilyn Morales have performed at venues throughout the United States. They have also performed in Costa Rica, Spain, and throughout the Caribbean. They have recorded a number of CDs, appeared on television and radio, and published a book of one piano/four hand holiday arrangements for beginning pianists, entitled “Christmas Treasures.”

Kirk Whipple attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and studied harmony and composition with W.A. Mathieu and Mary Marks. He also participated in Master Classes with Bella B. Nagy, John Browning, John Perry, and James Barbagallo. He placed first in the 1996 Bay Area Keyboard Artists Living Composers Competition in San Francisco, participated in the 1990 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow, and received numerous other awards, including several “Outstanding Musician” awards from the National Association of Jazz Educators. He has given solo recitals throughout the United States and abroad in Moscow, Leningrad, Frankfurt, Paris, and Madrid.

Marilyn Morales received her B.S. Degree in Applied Piano Performance from Boston University. She studied harmony and composition with W.A. Mathieu, Dr. Robert Sirota and Richard Cornell, and participated in Master Classes with Michael Tilson Thomas and Claude Monteau. Morales participated in the 1990 Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia, Spain, and was a finalist in the Bookland Piano Competition in 1988 in Portland, Maine. She has performed solo recitals in California, Massachusetts, Florida, New York, Texas, and Louisiana in this country, and abroad in Valencia, Madrid and Havana, Cuba.
